Miss America Organization

I started competing within MAO in ’09 because I wanted to change the misconception that beautiful women don’t have brains, and that breaking rules gets you attention.  So I set out on what I thought would be a short-lived journey.  Boy was I wrong!

First, I realized  that I could win.  It sounds silly, but before I entered, I didn’t think I could be Miss Virginia!  Second, I realized that I was not ready to win.  I did not have clear goals and I clearly did not know what I was doing. Since then, not a day has passed that I didn’t dream of  inspiring our next generation.  But of course, the realist in me pinches me to wake up and set my pumps to the pavement.

Part of the beauty of this program is that excellence is contagious.  Early on I met former titleholders, and the most supportive friends I could have ever asked for.  Everyone was incredibly encouraging and I could blab about how wonderful they all are, but will save that for another day.  Long story short– I have done the shopping, and learned the menial tricks of the trade.  But more importantly I did major soul searching, and have ultimately grown into the person I am today.   I am so grateful of the volunteers all over the state that have given me the opportunity to become Miss Commonwealth 2010, and then Miss Smith Mountain Lake 2011.  I have challenged myself to go where I never thought I could, and prepared myself for the obligations and duties of these titles.  It’s going to be a great year as Miss Smith Mountain Lake, and I look forward to continuing the tough preparations for Miss Virginia 2011.  Heads up seven-up, Miss VA is the last full week in June, mark those calendars! I want to hear you in the crowd! Additionally, if you are interested in helping my journey, please send me an email and I would love for you to be a part of this effort.
